7 Tips To Prepare Your Body For The Fall Season

The fall season is now upon us, a transition between summer and winter that prepares us for the coming cold, rain, snow, less sunshine, etc. It is important to prepare well! Here are few healthy body tips to get you ready for the season ahead:

1. Adopt a balanced diet

During the winter, your body suffers a number of bacterial and viral attacks which lead to a weakening of immune system defenses and increase the risk of colds, flu, fever, etc. One of the best ways to protect your immune system is to adopt a healthy diet that is a combination of varied and balanced menus. With this in mind we recommend vegetables, including root vegetables, cabbage, squash, celery, salads and peppers, and fruits such as apples, oranges and clementines.

During the fall, dairy products should be consumed in moderation and cold drinks should be avoided. Instead, drink herbal teas and green tea to help your digestion and reduce bloating and gas.

2. Fill up on energy

There are several ways to recharge your energy. Here are a few of them:

Sleep early (before 10 pm) at least two or three times a week. You will recharge your batteries! It’s also important to sleep a minimum of 7 to 8 hours per night.

Take a real lunch break, instead of eating in front of your computer screen.

Snuggle up in bed one morning a week to read a good book or just do some meditation. Even if it's cold, open your windows for 10 minutes before going to bed. This will clean up the air in your home and get rid of dust.

3. Practice regular physical activity

The other essential condition to ensure the proper functioning of your immune system and enjoy the fall in good health is regular physical activity such as walking, jogging or any other exercise that you like. Make a special time for your activity by getting up early each morning or taking 30 minutes to do physical exercise during your lunch break.

Jogging every morning for a half hour is an effective way to improve immune system function and strengthen your overall health during this period. Sport, in addition to being good for the body, also helps to fight against stress and gives a feeling of well-being.

4. Take care of yourself

When those dear little ones are asleep and your significant other is reading in bed, treat yourself to a bath (not too hot!) and finish with a fresh shower. Finishing it off by treating yourself to a massage with a relaxing oil or muscle relaxer is a plus.

5. Prevent blues and body pain

As you might know, cold weather can trigger back pain because it causes the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the spine to tighten.  Additionally, if joints are already inflamed, a drop in barometric pressure or temperature can cause swelling and pain. So if you’re dealing with back or muscle pain, try to take a warm bath regularly with a few drops of lavender oil or Epsom salt. Laying down on a heated blanket is another great idea. Don't forget to use a natural muscle relaxer lotion on any sore areas. If you don’t have any in your cabinet, discover our natural soothing muscle relaxer ”Hush Rub”.

6. Prioritize natural products

In autumn, cases of cough and fever are very common. To treat them, natural products are often very effective. A few examples: Ginger contains antiviral substances that fight against sore throat, inflammation of the mucous membranes and coughing. Coriander (Cliantro or Chinese parsley) is toning, anti-infectious, anti-parasitic and analgesic, and helps purify the body of toxins.

Here is a hot drink recipe to help you boost your immune system:

Ingredients: 2 to 3 cm fresh organic ginger, 1/4 tsp. of cumin seeds (or powder), 1/4 tsp. of coriander seeds, 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon powder, and stevia according to your taste.

Preparation:

Heat 1 liter of water, add the spices and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes depending on whether you want a pronounced taste or not. Filter and sweeten per your preference.

7. Wear color

Your beautiful tan is long gone so it's really not the time to get dressed in gray and black. Feel free to wear bright and cheerful colors that will put you in a good mood in the morning. And even better, those bright fall colors are trendy!

Here’s wishing you an amazing fall filled with good health!
